Engender Technologies

Engender Technologies is a New Zealand animal-biotechnology company developing and commercializing sperm-sorting technology for the dairy industry. Its core platform uses patented laser-based photonics and microfluidics methods to separate X-bearing and Y-bearing bull sperm cells, enabling farmers and breeding companies to influence calf sex outcomes. The company originated from University of Auckland research led by Professor Cather Simpson and was founded in 2011. Engender was acquired by CRV in 2018 and continues to operate as an active subsidiary with R&D capabilities in New Zealand. Its technology is positioned to improve animal welfare, breeding efficiency, herd genetics, and dairy farm economics through precision breeding.
