ENKAM Pharmaceuticals was a Danish biotechnology company dedicated to the discovery and development of peptide-based drugs for the treatment of neurological and psychiatric disorders. The company's proprietary technology platform focused on the Neural Cell Adhesion Molecule (NCAM) and its role in neural plasticity and survival. By developing NCAM-derived mimetics, such as the FGL peptide, ENKAM aimed to stimulate the Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor (FGFR) signaling pathway to treat conditions like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. The company was a spin-out from the University of Copenhagen, leveraging decades of research into cell adhesion molecules. In 2009, ENKAM was acquired by the UK-based CNS specialist Proximagen Group to expand its portfolio of central nervous system therapies.
