Enobia Pharmaceuticals was a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on developing novel therapies for serious genetic metabolic diseases. The company's lead product candidate, asfotase alfa (formerly ENB-0040), is a first-in-class enzyme replacement therapy designed to address the underlying cause of hypophosphatasia (HPP). HPP is a rare, life-threatening genetic bone disease characterized by defective bone mineralization and progressive organ damage. Enobia was acquired by Alexion Pharmaceuticals in 2012 for up to $1.08 billion, leading to the eventual global regulatory approval and commercialization of asfotase alfa under the brand name Strensiq.
