Entomed

Entomed was a French biotechnology company dedicated to the discovery and development of novel therapeutic agents derived from the immune systems of insects. Founded in 1999 and headquartered in Strasbourg, the company leveraged the research of Nobel laureate Jules Hoffmann to identify antimicrobial peptides and other bioactive molecules. Its proprietary platform, EntoScreen, enabled the high-throughput screening of insect-derived compounds for potential applications in infectious diseases and oncology. Entomed successfully attracted significant venture capital from firms such as Sofinnova Partners and HealthCap. In 2004, the company was acquired by the Swiss biotech firm Evolva in an all-stock transaction. This acquisition allowed Evolva to combine Entomed's insect-based discovery capabilities with its own genetic chemistry platform.
