Company intelligence / Profile preview
Epicyt Pharma is a Gothenburg-based, clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing first-in-class therapies for impaired intestinal calcium uptake, a major driver of metabolic bone disease and osteoporosis. The company's lead drug candidate, BAFA, is an oral combination of glycocholate (a bile acid) and butyrate (a short-chain fatty acid) designed to enhance calcium absorption by activating vitamin D receptors in intestinal epithelial cells. BAFA is primarily being developed to treat decreased calcium absorption in patients who have undergone Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) surgery. In March 2026, Epicyt completed a successful Phase 1/2a clinical trial (EPGB001) demonstrating that BAFA significantly increased calcium absorption and was well tolerated, paving the way for Phase 2b development.
