Company intelligence / Profile preview
EPIX Pharmaceuticals, formerly known as EPIX Medical, was a biopharmaceutical company that specialized in the discovery and development of targeted contrast agents and small molecule therapeutics. The company's flagship product, Vasovist (gadofosveset trisodium), was a pioneering blood-pool imaging agent for magnetic resonance angiography that bound to serum albumin. In 2006, the company merged with Predix Pharmaceuticals, integrating a proprietary G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) drug discovery platform and a pipeline of CNS-focused candidates. This merger shifted the company's focus toward internal drug development for indications such as depression, Alzheimer's disease, and pulmonary hypertension. Despite having an FDA-approved product and several mid-to-late-stage clinical programs, EPIX faced significant financial challenges and failed to secure necessary funding. Consequently, the company ceased operations in 2009 and liquidated its intellectual property and assets through an Assignment for the Benefit of Creditors.
