Erbamont

Erbamont was a leading international pharmaceutical company focused on oncology, immunology, and infectious diseases during the 1980s and early 1990s. It was established as a holding company for the healthcare assets of the Italian industrial group Montedison, most notably Farmitalia Carlo Erba. The company is best known for its pioneering work in anthracycline antibiotics, specifically the development of the blockbuster chemotherapy drug Adriamycin (doxorubicin). Erbamont also operated Adria Laboratories in the United States, which was instrumental in the clinical development and marketing of its oncology portfolio. The company was publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol ERB. In 1993, Erbamont's core operations were acquired by the Swedish pharmaceutical firm Pharmacia in a major consolidation of the European life sciences industry.
