Company intelligence / Profile preview
Ergo Science Corporation was a biotechnology firm specializing in the development of treatments for metabolic disorders, specifically Type 2 diabetes and obesity. The company's primary innovation was Cycloset, a proprietary formulation of bromocriptine mesylate designed to modulate the central nervous system's control of metabolism via circadian rhythms. Ergo Science went public on the NASDAQ in 1995 but faced regulatory setbacks when the FDA initially issued a non-approvable letter in 1998. Following financial difficulties and a shift in corporate strategy, the company's assets and lead program were eventually transitioned to VeroScience, which secured FDA approval for Cycloset in 2009. The company is no longer active, having liquidated its assets in the early 2000s.
