Ester Neuroscience

Ester Neuroscience was an Israeli clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company specializing in the development of antisense-based therapies for neurological and inflammatory diseases. The company's core technology focused on the modulation of the cholinergic system, specifically targeting the acetylcholinesterase (AChE) enzyme. Its lead product candidate, Monarsen (EN101), was a synthetic antisense oligonucleotide developed for the treatment of myasthenia gravis, a chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disease. Monarsen demonstrated promising results in Phase 2 clinical trials, showing improvements in muscle strength and safety compared to standard treatments. In December 2007, the company was acquired by Amarin Corporation for an upfront payment of $15 million plus potential milestones. However, Amarin eventually discontinued the program to focus on its cardiovascular assets.
