Eukarion

Eukarion was a biotechnology company focused on the development of synthetic catalytic antioxidants (SCAs) to treat oxidative stress-related disorders. The company's core technology utilized small molecule manganese-salen complexes designed to mimic the protective activities of the enzymes superoxide dismutase and catalase. These compounds were primarily investigated for their potential in treating neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, as well as mitigating damage from radiation and aging. Eukarion was acquired by the UK-based Proteome Sciences plc in 2002. While its clinical pharmaceutical development stalled post-acquisition, its lead compounds, notably EUK-134, have gained significant commercial use as high-potency antioxidants in the skincare industry.
