European Spallation Source

The European Spallation Source (ESS) is a multi-disciplinary research facility based on the world's most powerful pulsed neutron source. Located in Lund, Sweden, it is a collaborative project involving 13 European nations organized as a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC). ESS provides advanced neutron scattering techniques that enable scientists to study the structure and dynamics of materials at the atomic and molecular levels. In the life sciences, the facility supports research into protein structures, drug delivery systems, and biological membranes, offering insights that are often unattainable with X-ray methods. The facility is currently under construction and commissioning, aiming to become a cornerstone of European research innovation.
