Company intelligence / Profile preview
Excela Health was a western Pennsylvania not-for-profit integrated health system centered in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, operating acute-care hospitals, outpatient facilities, physician practices, home care, hospice, and related services. Founded in 2004 through the combination of local hospital assets, it served Westmoreland County and surrounding communities through Westmoreland, Latrobe, and Frick hospitals and a multispecialty physician network. In January 2023, Excela Health and Butler Health System completed their combination, and in May 2023 the combined organization adopted the name Independence Health System. As a result, Excela Health continues mainly as a legacy brand within the larger health system rather than as a standalone active company. The organization was service-focused rather than drug-development-focused, with business lines spanning hospital care, surgery, emergency medicine, specialty care, behavioral health, home health, hospice, and ambulatory services.
