Eyre Pharmaceuticals was a UK-based biotechnology company focused on the discovery and development of novel therapies for respiratory diseases, particularly asthma and COPD. Spun out from the University of Southampton, the company centered its research on the ADAM33 gene, which was identified as a key susceptibility gene for asthma. In 2004, Eyre Pharmaceuticals was acquired by Synairgen, which integrated Eyre's intellectual property and research programs into its own respiratory drug discovery platform. The company's work primarily involved identifying small molecule inhibitors of the ADAM33 protein to prevent airway remodeling and inflammation.
