Fairbanks Institute

The Fairbanks Institute for Healthy Communities was an Indianapolis-based non-profit organization dedicated to advancing personalized medicine through the creation of a large-scale biorepository called INbank. Launched in 2006 with support from BioCrossroads and the Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation, the institute collected biological samples and longitudinal clinical data from the Indiana population, specifically focusing on chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes and coronary artery disease. By linking these samples to electronic health records from the Indiana Network for Patient Care (INPC), the institute provided a unique platform for researchers in academia and industry to study disease progression and treatment response. Although it is no longer active as an independent entity, its contributions to biobanking and the Indiana life sciences ecosystem provided critical resources for biomarker discovery and translational research.
