Farmos Group was a prominent Finnish pharmaceutical and chemical company headquartered in Turku, specializing in the development of original proprietary drugs. The company achieved international recognition for its pioneering research into alpha-2 adrenoceptor agonists, which led to the creation of several globally successful anesthetic and sedative agents. Key innovations include medetomidine and its pure enantiomer dexmedetomidine, which are widely used in both human and veterinary medicine. In the late 1980s, the company was acquired by Orion Corporation, and its operations were fully integrated into Orion's pharmaceutical divisions.
