Forschergruppe Diabetes e.V. is a prominent German research organization specializing in the pathogenesis, early detection, and prevention of Type 1 Diabetes. Based in Munich and closely affiliated with Helmholtz Munich, the group is a leading member of the Global Platform for the Prevention of Autoimmune Diabetes (GPPAD). They are best known for spearheading the Fr1da study, a large-scale population screening program for islet autoantibodies in children, and conducting pivotal clinical trials such as the Primary Oral Insulin Trial (POInT). Their research aims to develop vaccination strategies using oral insulin to induce immunological tolerance and prevent the clinical manifestation of diabetes in high-risk individuals.
