Company intelligence / Profile preview
Fortron Bio Science was a specialized biotechnology company that developed and manufactured high-quality biological reagents, including monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies, antigens, and immunoassay kits. Based in Morrisville, North Carolina, the company operated USDA-licensed and cGMP-compliant facilities to produce bulk quantities of reagents for the in-vitro diagnostics (IVD), pharmaceutical, and biotechnology industries. Fortron was particularly recognized for its expertise in cardiac markers, such as Troponin I and Troponin T, which are critical for diagnosing myocardial necrosis. In July 2005, the company was acquired by R&D Systems, a subsidiary of Bio-Techne (then Techne Corporation), for an aggregate price of $20 million alongside its distribution partner BiosPacific. Following the acquisition, Fortron continued to operate as a subsidiary until it was fully merged into the R&D Systems Biotechnology Division in July 2007. The company's products supported a wide range of clinical applications, including testing for cardiovascular disease, cancer, and infectious diseases.
