Fox Hollow

FoxHollow Technologies was a medical device company that pioneered minimally invasive treatments for peripheral artery disease (PAD). The company developed the SilverHawk Plaque Excision System, a catheter-based device designed to physically remove plaque from the walls of narrowed arteries, a procedure known as atherectomy. This technology provided an alternative to traditional balloon angioplasty and stenting by debulking the vessel without stretching the arterial wall. FoxHollow was founded by prolific medical inventor John Simpson and became a significant player in the vascular intervention market. The company was acquired by ev3 Inc. in 2007 for approximately $780 million and its technology now resides within Medtronic's vascular portfolio.
