Fraunhofer USA is a non-profit applied research organization and the US-based affiliate of the German Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. The organization operates several research centers, most notably the Center for Molecular Biotechnology (CMB), which specializes in plant-based vaccine and therapeutic development. Utilizing its proprietary Launch platform, Fraunhofer USA enables the rapid, scalable production of recombinant proteins in Nicotiana benthamiana plants. Its work spans infectious diseases, including influenza, malaria, and anthrax, as well as oncology and autoimmune disorders. Fraunhofer USA provides contract research, development, and GMP manufacturing services to government agencies like DARPA and NIH, as well as private industry partners.
