Company intelligence / Profile preview
FrontPoint Partners was a prominent multi-strategy hedge fund manager that maintained a significant presence in the healthcare and life sciences investment sectors. Founded in 2000 and headquartered in Greenwich, Connecticut, the firm operated several specialized funds, including the FrontPoint Healthcare Fund, which focused on biotechnology and pharmaceutical equities. The firm gained widespread notoriety for its successful bets against the subprime mortgage market, as depicted in the book and film "The Big Short." However, its healthcare division was later embroiled in a high-profile insider trading scandal involving portfolio manager Chip Skowron and Human Genome Sciences (HGSI). Following its acquisition by Morgan Stanley and subsequent legal challenges, the firm saw massive investor redemptions and eventually ceased operations in 2011.
