Fujisawa Healthcare was the North American operating arm of Fujisawa Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., a prominent Japanese pharmaceutical company founded in 1894. The company established itself as a global leader in the field of transplantation and immunology, primarily through the development and commercialization of the blockbuster immunosuppressant Prograf (tacrolimus). Beyond immunology, Fujisawa maintained a significant presence in the anti-infective and cardiovascular markets with products like AmBisome and Adenoscan. In April 2005, Fujisawa Pharmaceutical merged with Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical to form Astellas Pharma, creating one of the top twenty pharmaceutical companies in the world at the time.
