Futura Biomedical was a San Diego-based medical device company that specialized in the development and commercialization of orthopedic implants for small joint reconstruction. The company's product line primarily addressed podiatric and hand surgery needs, featuring innovative solutions like the Uni-Knob and Great Toe joint replacement systems. These devices were designed to treat degenerative conditions such as hallux rigidus and osteoarthritis in the extremities. In May 2005, Futura Biomedical was acquired by Integra LifeSciences for approximately $12 million in cash. The acquisition allowed Integra to strengthen its extremity reconstruction portfolio and leverage Futura's established presence in the podiatry market.
