Galileo Pharmaceuticals, originally founded as Galileo Laboratories, was a California-based biotechnology company dedicated to developing small molecule drugs for diseases driven by oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction. The company leveraged a proprietary drug discovery platform focused on redox-active chemistry to address unmet needs in neurology, inflammation, and metabolic disorders. Its clinical pipeline featured idebenone for the treatment of Friedreich's ataxia and Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy, as well as inhibitors of 5-lipoxygenase for inflammatory conditions. In 2006, the company's assets were acquired by Edison Pharmaceuticals, which continued the development of mitochondrial-targeted therapies.
