Galileo Pharmaceuticals was a biotechnology company based in Santa Clara, California, that focused on the discovery and development of small molecule therapeutics for inflammatory and metabolic diseases. Founded in 1995 as Galileo Laboratories, the company specialized in the regulation of gene expression and cellular signaling pathways related to oxidative stress and lipid mediators. Its lead clinical candidate, GS-0589, was a potent 5-lipoxygenase inhibitor that reached Phase 2 clinical trials for the treatment of asthma. The company also explored treatments for type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular conditions using its proprietary redox-active chemistry platform. Despite significant backing from top-tier venture capital firms like Kleiner Perkins and Venrock, Galileo Pharmaceuticals ceased operations in 2006, with its core assets and leadership transitioning to Edison Pharmaceuticals.
