Gamera Bioscience was a biotechnology company specializing in the development of centrifugal microfluidic systems, most notably the "Lab-on-a-CD" (LabCD) platform. The technology utilized a disposable plastic disc to perform complex laboratory assays, using centrifugal force to move fluids through micro-channels for processing. This platform was designed to automate and miniaturize tasks in drug discovery, genomics, and clinical diagnostics, significantly reducing reagent consumption and processing time. Founded in 1996 and based in Medford, Massachusetts, the company established key partnerships with industry leaders like Amersham Pharmacia Biotech. In 1999, Gamera Bioscience was acquired by the Tecan Group, which integrated the LabCD technology into its portfolio of automated laboratory instruments.
