Company intelligence / Profile preview
Gastrotech Pharma was a Danish biopharmaceutical company focused on the development of peptide-based drugs for gastrointestinal and metabolic diseases. The company's core expertise lay in the biology of ghrelin, a hormone that regulates appetite and gastrointestinal motility. Its lead product candidate, GT-001, was a synthetic ghrelin agonist investigated for the treatment of post-operative ileus and gastroparesis. Gastrotech's research also extended into the treatment of cancer-related cachexia and eating disorders. In 2005, the company was acquired by Ferring Pharmaceuticals, which sought to expand its gastroenterology pipeline with Gastrotech's ghrelin-related assets. Following the acquisition, the development of these programs continued under Ferring's management.
