Company intelligence / Profile preview
GATX Capital was a subsidiary of GATX Corporation that provided asset-based financing and leasing services to various industries, including rail, aviation, and technology. During the late 1990s and early 2000s, the company operated a dedicated Life Sciences and Technology division that was a significant provider of venture debt and equipment leasing to the biotechnology sector. This division helped clinical-stage companies finance laboratory and manufacturing infrastructure without the dilution associated with equity financing. GATX Corporation has since refocused its business model almost exclusively on railcar leasing, leading to the wind-down or sale of GATX Capital's diversified finance portfolios. The company is no longer an active participant in the life sciences investment or financing landscape.
