Gelman Sciences was a prominent manufacturer of microfiltration products and membranes used in laboratory research, medical diagnostics, and industrial processes. Founded in 1958 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the company became a global leader in developing microporous membranes for air and liquid filtration. Its technology was essential for sterile filtration in pharmaceutical manufacturing and laboratory analysis. In 1997, the company was acquired by Pall Corporation for approximately $280 million, which integrated Gelman's filtration expertise into its own life sciences division. Today, the company is also widely recognized for the long-term environmental remediation efforts associated with 1,4-dioxane groundwater contamination at its former headquarters.
