GelSite

DelSite Biotechnologies was a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development of its proprietary GelSite polymer technology for the controlled release of vaccines and therapeutic agents. The GelSite polymer, a high-molecular-weight anionic polysaccharide extracted from Aloe vera, is capable of in-situ gelling, providing a stable matrix for the sustained delivery of peptides and proteins. The company's most advanced platform, GelVac, was a nasal powder delivery system used for an H5N1 avian influenza vaccine that reached Phase 1 clinical trials. DelSite also developed the GelSure injectable platform and the GPDA depot adjuvant. Following financial difficulties, the company's assets were acquired in 2009 by Nanotherapeutics (now part of National Resilience), which integrated the GelSite technology into its drug delivery and manufacturing portfolio.
