Gemin X Biotechnologies

Gemin X Biotechnologies was a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company dedicated to developing novel cancer therapeutics that target the apoptosis (programmed cell death) pathway. The company's lead candidate, obatoclax, was a first-in-class pan-BCL-2 inhibitor designed to overcome the survival mechanisms of cancer cells by inhibiting pro-survival proteins such as BCL-2 and MCL-1. Gemin X utilized its proprietary ApoGen platform to identify small molecules that could restore natural cell death processes in various malignancies. In 2011, the company was acquired by Cephalon for $225 million in cash plus potential milestone payments. Following the acquisition, its oncology programs were integrated into Cephalon's pipeline, which was subsequently acquired by Teva Pharmaceutical Industries.
