Company intelligence / Profile preview
Gemma Biotechnology is a Canadian biotechnology company founded in 1996 and based in Toronto, Ontario. Spun out of the University Health Network, the company focused on discovering and developing biological response modifiers for the treatment of cancer and immune system disorders. Its lead technology was Lactation-Associated ImmunoTrophic Protein (LAIT), a 50-kDa glycoprotein identified as soluble CD14 (sCD14) purified from bovine colostrum or produced recombinantly. LAIT was developed as an immune-boosting therapeutic and nutraceutical ingredient capable of inducing B-cell growth and differentiation via Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) pathways.
