Company intelligence / Profile preview
Gen9 was a synthetic biology and gene synthesis company that developed high-throughput, automated DNA synthesis and assembly technologies for producing long, accurate DNA constructs. The company served industrial and life sciences customers across areas including pharmaceuticals, enzymes, chemicals, agriculture, and biofuels rather than advancing a traditional therapeutic drug pipeline. Gen9 built a manufacturing-oriented platform for scalable DNA fabrication, including its BioFab platform and associated software, informatics, and IP portfolio. In January 2017, Gen9 was acquired by Ginkgo Bioworks, which integrated Gen9's DNA synthesis capabilities into its organism engineering foundries. As an independent company, Gen9 should be considered inactive following the acquisition.
