Company intelligence / Profile preview
Genetic Therapy, Inc. (GTI) was a seminal biotechnology company that pioneered the commercial development of human gene therapies. Founded in 1986, the company achieved historical significance by sponsoring the first-ever approved human gene therapy clinical trial for ADA-SCID in 1990. GTI focused on developing viral vector delivery systems, particularly retroviral and adenoviral vectors, to treat genetic disorders and cancer. Following its acquisition by Sandoz (now Novartis) in 1995, the company's technologies and expertise were integrated into the global Novartis research infrastructure, laying the groundwork for modern genomic medicines.
