GENE-TRAK Systems was a biotechnology company specializing in the development of DNA probe-based diagnostic tests for food safety and clinical microbiology. The company's primary focus was the rapid detection of foodborne pathogens, including Salmonella, Listeria, and E. coli, using proprietary molecular hybridization technology. By targeting ribosomal RNA, GENE-TRAK's assays provided high sensitivity and specificity, significantly shortening the time-to-result compared to conventional microbiological culture techniques. The company was a leader in the transition from traditional methods to molecular diagnostics in the food industry. Originally formed as a joint venture involving Integrated Genetics and Amoco, it eventually became a part of Vysis before being acquired by Neogen Corporation in 2001.
