GeneMax

GeneMax was a biotechnology company focused on developing gene therapies to enhance the immune system's ability to identify and eradicate cancer cells. The company's core technology utilized the Transporter associated with Antigen Processing (TAP) genes, which are often downregulated in tumor cells, allowing them to evade immune detection. By delivering TAP genes into these "stealth" cells, GeneMax aimed to restore the presentation of tumor antigens on the cell surface, thereby triggering a robust T-cell response. The technology was originally developed at the University of British Columbia by Dr. Wilfred Jefferies. In 2013, the company's assets and technology rights were acquired by Nuvilex, which subsequently rebranded as PharmaCyte Biotech.
