Company intelligence / Profile preview
Generic Medical Devices, Inc. (GMD) was a medical device company based in Gig Harbor, Washington, that pioneered the "generic" business model for medical devices. Founded in 2006, the company focused on developing and marketing high-quality, lower-cost alternatives to standard-of-care surgical products whose patents had expired. Its product portfolio included the GMD Universal Circumcision Clamp, the GMD Universal Surgical Mesh for hernia repair, and the GMD Universal Sling System for female stress urinary incontinence. GMD aimed to reduce healthcare costs by providing substantially equivalent devices at approximately two-thirds the price of branded counterparts. The company ceased operations around 2012, following the disappearance of its corporate website and a lack of further regulatory activity.
