GeneSense Technologies

GeneSense Technologies was a Canadian biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the development of antisense oligonucleotide therapeutics for oncology indications. The company's core technology platform focused on the selective inhibition of gene expression to treat various forms of cancer. Its lead candidate, GTI-2040, was designed to target the R2 subunit of ribonucleotide reductase, an enzyme essential for DNA synthesis and tumor cell proliferation. GeneSense also developed GTI-2501, which targeted the R1 subunit of the same enzyme. In 2000, the company was acquired by Lorus Therapeutics (now Aptose Biosciences), which integrated GeneSense's antisense pipeline into its own clinical development programs. The acquisition provided Lorus with a robust portfolio of RNA-targeting agents and established a foundation for its subsequent work in precision oncology.
