Genetic Therapy, Inc. (GTI) was a pioneering biotechnology company focused on the development of gene-based medicines to treat cancer and genetic disorders. Founded in 1986, the company was one of the first to initiate human clinical trials for gene therapy, notably using retroviral vectors to deliver therapeutic genes. GTI's lead programs focused on 'suicide gene therapy' for brain tumors and treatments for orphan diseases like Gaucher disease. The company was acquired by Sandoz (now Novartis) in 1995 for approximately $295 million, marking one of the earliest major acquisitions in the gene therapy sector.
