Genome Systems

Genome Systems was a pioneering biotechnology company specializing in genomic resources and services. Founded in 1992 and based in St. Louis, Missouri, it became a leading provider of P1, BAC, and YAC libraries, as well as cDNA clones. The company offered custom screening services that were instrumental to the global research community during the early years of the Human Genome Project. By providing high-quality physical mapping tools, Genome Systems facilitated large-scale DNA sequencing and gene discovery. In 1996, the company was acquired by Incyte Pharmaceuticals for approximately $7 million in stock. Its genomic resource business was subsequently sold to Invitrogen in 2001, which eventually became part of Thermo Fisher Scientific.
