Genta was a pioneering biopharmaceutical company focused on oncology and antisense therapeutics. Its lead programs included Ganite® (gallium nitrate) approved in the US for cancer-related hypercalcemia, tesetaxel as an oral taxane in late-stage trials for solid tumors, and Genasense®—an antisense drug targeting Bcl‑2—in Phase III trials. Despite promising science and partnerships with major firms like Procter & Gamble, repeated clinical setbacks led to financial distress. The company filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation in August 2012 after failed pivotal studies and inability to secure further funding or regulatory approvals.
