The GI Co., Inc. was a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on the development of recombinant proteins for the treatment of gastrointestinal and mucosal diseases. Founded by Dr. Daniel K. Podolsky, a leading gastroenterologist and researcher, the company's primary focus was on the Trefoil Factor Family (TFF), specifically recombinant human Intestinal Trefoil Factor (rhITF). Its lead candidate, rhITF, reached Phase 2 clinical trials for the prevention and treatment of oral mucositis in cancer patients, demonstrating potential in protecting the mucosal lining from chemotherapy-induced damage.
