Girardi Keese was a prominent American personal injury law firm based in Los Angeles, California, founded in 1965. The firm gained international fame for its lead role in the litigation against Pacific Gas & Electric, a case that served as the basis for the film 'Erin Brockovich'. Throughout its history, the firm specialized in high-profile class action lawsuits, medical malpractice, and toxic torts, often involving pharmaceutical and healthcare defendants. In late 2020 and early 2021, the firm collapsed amid allegations that its co-founder, Thomas Girardi, had embezzled millions of dollars from client settlement funds. The firm was subsequently forced into involuntary Chapter 7 bankruptcy and is no longer operational. Its assets have been liquidated to pay back creditors and former clients.
