GlycoDesign

GlycoDesign was a Toronto-based biotechnology company specializing in glycobiology and the development of carbohydrate-based therapeutics. Founded as a spin-off from the University of Toronto, the company focused on designing small molecule inhibitors of enzymes involved in protein glycosylation to treat cancer and inflammatory diseases. Its lead clinical candidate, GD0039, was a small molecule inhibitor of alpha-mannosidase II that reached Phase 2 clinical trials for oncology. The company's platform aimed to disrupt the aberrant glycosylation patterns often found in diseased cells. In 2003, GlycoDesign was acquired by Progenics Pharmaceuticals to bolster their pipeline of carbohydrate-related therapies.
