Company intelligence / Profile preview
GlyConMedics is a biotechnology company based in San Diego, California, that specialized in developing novel combination therapies for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2D). Founded in 2013 by Dr. Nick Gorgani, the company's lead candidate, OZ101, is a proprietary oligofructose prebiotic designed to be used as an adjunctive therapy with sulfonylureas. The combination aims to address the progressive beta-cell failure and side effects associated with long-term sulfonylurea use, such as weight gain and hypoglycemia, by modulating the gut microbiome and improving insulin sensitivity. Clinical studies, including a Phase 2a pilot trial, demonstrated that the addition of OZ101 to sulfonylurea therapy could stabilize glycemic control and improve beta-cell function. Despite these promising results, the company and its related entities are currently inactive. GlyConMedics represented an early effort in the microbiome-based metabolic health space, focusing on enhancing the safety and efficacy of established off-patent medications.
