Goldman Philanthropic Partnerships (GPP) was a pioneering non-profit organization founded in 1998 by Kathy Giusti and Karen Andrews to accelerate the development of treatments for multiple myeloma. The organization is best known for establishing the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) and the Multiple Myeloma Research Consortium (MMRC), which revolutionized the venture philanthropy model in the life sciences. GPP applied a results-oriented business strategy to medical research, facilitating high-level collaborations between academic centers and pharmaceutical companies to streamline clinical trials. Through its management of the MMRF, the organization played a pivotal role in the FDA approval of several landmark myeloma therapies, including bortezomib and lenalidomide. Although its operations have since been fully integrated into the MMRF, GPP remains a foundational example of how philanthropic entities can drive drug discovery. The organization successfully bridged the gap between early-stage academic research and commercial drug availability for oncology patients.
