Good Samaritan Health System

Good Samaritan Health System was a nonprofit hospital system based in San Jose, California, operating acute-care hospital assets including Good Samaritan Hospital, San Jose Medical Center, and South Valley Hospital prior to its sale. It was a healthcare delivery organization rather than a drug-development biotech or pharma company, so it did not have a therapeutic pipeline, platform technology, or molecular targets. In January 1996, the system was acquired by Columbia/HCA Healthcare in a transaction reported at approximately $165 million. Following the acquisition, the legacy Good Samaritan Health System brand ceased to operate as an independent company, while core hospital operations continued under HCA ownership and related successor entities.
