GRAIL

GRAIL is a healthcare company focused on the early detection of cancer through its pioneering multi-cancer early detection (MCED) technology. The company's flagship product, Galleri, is a liquid biopsy test that uses next-generation sequencing and machine learning to detect more than 50 types of cancer from a single blood draw by identifying methylation patterns in cell-free DNA. Originally spun out of Illumina in 2016, GRAIL was re-acquired by Illumina in 2021 but was subsequently divested in 2024 following regulatory challenges from the FTC and European Commission. The company is currently focused on commercializing its screening technology and conducting large-scale clinical trials, such as the NHS-Galleri study in the United Kingdom, to validate the clinical utility of early detection.
