GreenLeaf Genetics

GreenLeaf Genetics was a prominent agricultural biotechnology joint venture established in 2006 between Syngenta and Pioneer Hi-Bred, a subsidiary of DuPont. The company was created to facilitate the out-licensing of elite corn and soybean germplasm and advanced biotech traits to independent seed companies across North America. Its portfolio included significant technologies such as the Agrisure and Herculex trait families, which provide insect resistance and herbicide tolerance. In 2010, Syngenta acquired DuPont's 50% stake to become the sole owner of the entity. This acquisition allowed Syngenta to fully integrate the licensing business into its global seeds strategy. GreenLeaf Genetics remains a key historical example of strategic collaboration in the ag-biotech sector.
