Griffin Biomedical

Griffin Biomedical was a Canadian biotechnology company specializing in the development of advanced cryopreservation and biopreservation technologies. Founded in 1997 and based in Edmonton, the company focused on creating proprietary solutions to enhance the viability and longevity of cells and tissues for clinical use. Their research addressed the limitations of conventional preservation methods, particularly for blood products and regenerative medicine applications, by reducing the toxicity of cryoprotectants. In July 2003, Griffin Biomedical was acquired by BioLife Solutions, a leader in biopreservation tools, in an all-stock transaction. The acquisition allowed BioLife to consolidate key intellectual property and expand its product offerings in the high-growth regenerative medicine market.
