Groupe Fournier was a major French pharmaceutical company primarily recognized for its expertise in the fields of metabolism and cardiology. The company achieved international prominence through the development of fenofibrate, a highly successful lipid-lowering medication marketed under brand names such as Lipanthyl and Tricor. Beyond cardiovascular health, the group maintained research and commercial interests in gastroenterology, gynecology, and dermatology. Founded in 1880 and headquartered in Dijon, France, the company remained family-owned for over a century before its acquisition. In 2005, Groupe Fournier was acquired by Solvay, and its assets were subsequently integrated into Abbott and later AbbVie following further industry consolidations.
